Referrals
Psychiatrist’s are medical doctors who specialise in the diagnosis and management of mental illness. Mental illnesses are diverse and often complex. Common forms of mental illness include mood disorders such as depression and anxiety, as well as stress disorders such as PTSD and substance use disorders.
A referral to a Psychiatrist often comes at a time of great stress but can occur at any stage in a person’s recovery journey. Often the referral is delayed because other treatment options such as psychology, lifestyle changes such as exercise or changes to circumstances are attempted but without success.
How to refer
A GP referral is required to make an appointment with the Psychiatrist. GP referrals are valid for 12 months. Referrals from other medical specialists are also accepted but are only valid for 3 months.
